In order to thoroughly study and implement General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important exposition on scientific and technological innovation, vigorously promote the spirit of scientists, further standardize the management and use of scientific research funds, strengthen the construction of scientific research integrity, and foster a clean and upright scientific research ecology, on September 23, the laboratory party committee held a special meeting on integrity education. The meeting was held in a combination of offline and online formats. More than 200 people including home laboratory leaders, representatives of PI and scientific researchers, and relevant personnel from various functional units attended the meeting.

At the meeting, participants listened to special lectures by two well-known experts with solid theoretical foundations and rich practical experience in the industry, and watched warning educational films. Everyone has a more systematic grasp of the practical key points of scientific research funding management such as financial verification of scientific and technological projects, fund execution adjustments, and high-risk business links. They also have a deeper understanding of policies and standards for scientific research integrity construction, typical cases of scientific research dishonesty, and various hidden risks in scientific research activities. Everyone said that we should take the case as a lesson and sound the alarm, build a strong ideological defense against corruption and degeneration, standardize the use of scientific research funds, and consciously abide by relevant regulations on scientific research integrity.

      The meeting pointed out that scientific research funds are valuable public resources and scientific research integrity is the cornerstone of scientific and technological innovation. Delegating power does not mean laissez-faire, and trust cannot replace supervision. It is necessary to comprehensively sort out potential risks in fund management, system implementation, risk identification and other aspects, consolidate the responsibilities of the first person responsible for PI and the supervisory responsibilities of each unit and functional department at all levels, dynamically improve the system process, carry out policy education on a regular basis, and effectively implement all requirements.

      The meeting emphasized that all scientific research units and scientific research teams, especially PIs, must do a good job in communicating and implementing the spirit of the meeting, and integrate scientific research integrity and scientific research integrity into the entire scientific research process.
