on may 27, 2024, the 12th world biomaterials conference (wbc 2024) opened grandly in daegu, south korea. at the opening ceremony, 16 experts from the chinese society of biomaterials were officially elected as the 2024 "biomaterials science and engineering fellow" of the international federation of biomaterials science and engineering societies.

it is understood that the international union of biomaterials science and engineering societies (iusbse) is a non-political, non-profit academic organization. it has established the lifelong honorary title "fellow, biomaterials science and engineering" (fellow, biomaterials science and engineering, (referred to as fbse) is only awarded to scientists who have made outstanding contributions to the field of biomaterials science and engineering and have outstanding academic status and achievements. this title is the highest lifetime honorary title for the world's outstanding biomaterial experts and is elected every four years. according to statistics, there are currently 64 experts and scholars in our country who have received this honorary title.

introduction to professor wang guixue

wang gui chief scientist of the r&d plan project, chongqing academic technology leader, "golden phoenix" outstanding talent of the western (chongqing) science city, and the first batch of specially appointed guest experts of the scientific advisory committee of sinopharm taiji group. he has long been engaged in basic research and application transformation of atherosclerotic cardiovascular and cerebrovascular biomechanics, biomaterials, and nano-drug delivery. he has successively presided over key international scientific and technological cooperation projects of the ministry of science and technology/key projects of national support plans/key national research and development plans/national natural sciences there are more than 20 national-level projects including key funds/national natural science foundation of china/national major genetic engineering projects/major projects of national development and reform commission platform construction. since 2000, it has jointly published more than 450 academic papers in chinese and english, authorized more than 60 patents in china and the united states, and won 6 provincial and ministerial level scientific and technological achievement awards.

he has successively served as the director of the key laboratory of biorheology science and technology of the ministry of education, the director of the vascular implant engineering laboratory of the national development and reform commission, the director of the chongqing national bioindustry base public experiment center of the national development and reform commission, and a member of the biomedical engineering professional teaching steering committee of the ministry of education. chairman of the atherosclerosis special committee of the chinese pathophysiology society, chairman of the materials biomechanics branch of the chinese society of biomaterials, honorary chairman of the vascular branch of the chinese anatomy society, vice chairman of the interventional medicine innovation alliance of the national radiation and therapy clinical research center, vice chairman of the national medical-industrial integration alliance, and chairman of the science and technology branch of the chongqing traditional chinese medicine industry association. since 2019, he has been selected into the list of elsevier china's highly cited scholars (internationally renowned scholars in the field of biomedical engineering) and the top 100,000 scientists in the global scholar database for five consecutive times in the field of biomedical engineering. in recent years, he has been selected into the top 2% of the world's top scientists, international fellow of the academy of biomaterials science and engineering (fbse), director of the world chinese bioengineering association, and deputy editor of the journal "research" (if:11). he once served as dean/secretary/director of the academic committee of the school of bioengineering of chongqing university and deputy director of the academic committee of the ministry of medicine. he has served as an evaluation expert for science and technology and talent projects of the national natural science foundation of china, the organization department of the central committee of the communist party of china, the ministry of education, the ministry of science and technology, and the national development and reform commission, as well as a nominator and evaluation expert for the "scientific exploration award".
